Since going vegan a few years ago, trust me when I say I’ve tried my fair share of vegan supplements! But what I’ve eventually come to understand is that whilst many brands try to shout the loudest, not all supplements are created equal.

DR.VEGAN are a nutrition company based in the UK that formulate natural, plant-based, and eco-friendly supplements with the help of expert nutritionists. I’ve already featured them in my post on the best vegan multivitamins, so they’ve been on my radar for quite a while.

When they asked if I’d like to try out their supplements, I was only too keen to take them up on the opportunity! I specifically requested their Daily Multivitamin and Omega-3 supplements. From the nutritional information I could see, these were the ones that would best complement a vegan diet without any unnecessary extras.

After taking them every day for a month, I’m ready to give you my honest opinion.

How Did I Get On With DR.VEGAN?

As someone who already has a regular supplement routine, I wasn’t expecting any dramatic transformations. I use supplements to ensure I’m getting the right nutrients for my long-term health – something which isn’t immediately visible to the naked eye. I’m confident that with DR.VEGAN, I’ve got everything covered from the obvious B12 and Omega-3, right down to lesser-known trace minerals like zinc, selenium and iodine. And that’s a big, big tick!

That said, one noticeable change since making the switch to DR.VEGAN is the improvement in my skin’s appearance. Despite having hormonal, spot-prone skin, I’ve been completely breakout-free for 2-3 weeks (I realise I probably shouldn’t tempt fate like this!).

Indeed, DR.VEGAN does mention that within a month, you can expect ‘better, glowing skin’. I’ve even had some comments from friends and family on how well I’m looking recently. I’ve also noticed my nails are growing quickly, I’m sleeping like a baby at night, and my brain feels sharp throughout the day.

Whilst I’m sure all of this is no doubt helped by my current skincare routine, diet, getting enough exercise, and having a consistent sleep schedule, it definitely feels as though DR.VEGAN is complementing my lifestyle really well.

If you’re a vegan and want to maintain optimum health, then a Multivitamin and Omega-3 subscription would be my best recommendation when choosing your DR.VEGAN supplements (so long as you’re not pregnant and don’t have any specific health needs).

This provides excellent coverage of all the vital nutrients you run the risk of being deficient in when following a plant-based diet. Omega-3 is vital for brain and heart health, so it isn’t something you want to skip in the long term!

My only gripe is that they aren’t currently available as a bundle. Considering they’re in the ‘Frequently Paired With’ section, it’s surprising DR.VEGAN haven’t set this up yet. You can still purchase both individually on the Subscribe & Save model though, so it’s a minor niggle.

DR.VEGAN’s multivitamin is a high-quality, vegan-friendly supplement that is designed to complement a plant-based diet. The natural and non-GMO capsules contain 24 essential nutrients (I’ve included the ones you need to be particularly vigilant about as a vegan below). I love that they also come in plastic-free, home-compostable pouches.

DR.VEGAN provide a handy timeline of what to expect when taking their multivitamin over the first few months, and I saw many of these, including improved energy levels, quality of sleep, mental clarity and skin health.

The only negative? It has quite a strong smell and you have to remember to take two capsules a day. If you aren’t a fan of capsules, this could be a bit offputting. That said, it’s a small sacrifice for such highly quality ingredients.

What makes DR.VEGAN’s Omega-3 stand out from other vegan Omega-3 supplements? Well, namely that it contains 550mg of long-chain Omega-3s per daily serving, including 300mg DHA and 150mg EPA.

Whilst there’s no official recommended daily allowance, it’s pretty rare to find a supplement which meets the agreed standard by most health organisations of 250–500mg combined EPA and DHA.

It’s also ethically and sustainably sourced from algae in controlled environments, meaning that it’s 100% animal and planet-friendly, and contains zero toxins.

I found the soft gels really easy to take and very gentle on the stomach – not fishy-smelling at all!

Is there anything I didn't like?

Whilst I’m a huge fan of DR.VEGAN supplements, there are a couple of things that might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Firstly, remembering to take two capsules and two soft gels every day can be a bit of a hassle, especially if you’re not a fan of swallowing capsules. As I briefly mentioned, I also found that the multivitamin had a pretty strong smell. I’ve not seen any other reviews mention this though, so maybe I’ve just got an ultra-sensitive nose!

Whilst these were pretty minor niggles for me overall, they’re things to consider when making an informed decision.

There’s a huge price spectrum when it comes to supplements, and whilst DR.VEGAN aren’t the cheapest you’ll find, they’re leaps and bounds ahead of others in terms of quality, effectiveness, and clean ingredients. It’s a small price to pay when it comes to your long-term health, especially when you’re sticking to your animal-friendly and eco-conscious values.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need an Omega-3 supplement, or can I just take a multivitamin?

I’ve written more on the subject of Omega-3 over here, but suffice it to say that you do need to carefully consider your Omega-3 intake on a vegan diet. Whilst there are some plant sources, these typically aren’t as readily bioavailable as the Omega-3s in fish. Supplementing is usually a good idea to avoid long-term health risks, but check with your GP beforehand if at all unsure.

Do I have to take two capsules and soft gels a day?

If you’re already eating a healthy diet packed full of whole foods, then you can always take one multivitamin and one soft gel a day, if you’d prefer. I hate swallowing capsules, is there any way I can still take the multivitamin?
